Falmouth’s Alpine ski teams showcased their strength at the Southern Maine Athletic Association (SMAA) championships on February 7, 2024, held at Pleasant Mountain. The Falmouth boys and girls teams both secured first-place finishes, further solidifying the program’s reputation in high school skiing.
The boys’ team excelled with a total of 28 points, outpacing Kennebunk (89 points), Marshwood (95 points), and Scarborough (263 points). Leading the charge was Ian Christie, who clinched individual titles in both the slalom and giant slalom events. Christie recorded impressive times of 1:07.28 in slalom and 1:15.73 in giant slalom, showcasing his exceptional skill on the slopes.
Falmouth’s dominance in the slalom was evident, as the team placed four skiers in the top five. Alongside Christie, Liam Keefer finished second, Zach Small took fourth, and Blake Kingsley rounded out the top five, finishing fifth. Keefer and Kingsley also achieved top-five finishes in the giant slalom, with Keefer placing fourth and Kingsley finishing fifth.
The girls’ team mirrored this success, amassing a total of 47 points to surpass Scarborough (91), Kennebunk (111), Marshwood (122), and Windham (182). Margo Hesson led the girls with a victory in slalom, clocking in at 1:12.25, and secured second place in the giant slalom with a time of 1:21.67. Her teammates supported the effort, with Ella Morse finishing fifth in slalom and sixth in giant slalom, and Bridget Jacobsen achieving fourth in giant slalom and seventh in slalom.
In the giant slalom, Lena Asali of Scarborough emerged as the winner, completing the run in 1:21.54 and placing fourth in slalom. Hazel Martin from Marshwood finished second in slalom and third in giant slalom, while teammate Maeve Long claimed third in slalom as well. Kennebunk’s Eliza Nass rounded out the top competitors, finishing fifth in giant slalom.
Falmouth’s Alpine teams now set their sights on the Class A championships, scheduled for February 23-24 at Saddleback. Both teams are poised to defend their titles, continuing a legacy of excellence in high school Alpine skiing. The results at Pleasant Mountain not only highlight individual talents like Christie and Hesson but also emphasize the teamwork and dedication that have become hallmarks of Falmouth’s Alpine program.
