Jeremy Zoll Steps Up as Twins’ New Baseball Operations Leader

The Minnesota Twins are entering a new chapter as Jeremy Zoll has taken over as the primary decision-maker in baseball operations. This leadership change follows the departure of Derek Falvey, who left the organization on March 8, 2024, in what was described as a “mutual” decision. As the Twins prepare for spring training in Florida, where pitchers and catchers report next Thursday, Zoll is focused on enhancing the bullpen and adapting to his expanded role.

Zoll has been with the Twins since 2017, progressing through various positions, including director of minor league operations and assistant general manager. His promotion to general manager occurred after the 2024 season. Although his title remains unchanged, Zoll’s responsibilities have significantly increased. Tom Pohlad, who recently became the executive chair, expressed full confidence in Zoll’s capabilities, stating, “We lucked out with Jeremy Zoll being in this position right now to be able to have the continuity and stability in our baseball department.” He added that Zoll is “aggressive, decisive, and very competitive.”

With Falvey’s departure, a search for a new head of business operations is underway. Zoll will now also act as the liaison with ownership, a responsibility previously held by Falvey since he joined the team in 2016. While Falvey had Thad Levine as his general manager, Zoll has not yet appointed a second in command. Instead, he plans to rely on the team’s group of assistant general managers and other key personnel.

Zoll expressed his commitment to a collaborative approach as he takes on his new duties. “We’re all just going to roll up our sleeves and lean in a little bit further,” he said. Daily check-ins with the assistant general manager team and other leaders in the professional personnel area will be integral to this strategy.

As the Twins look to improve after finishing in fourth place in both of the last two seasons, there are challenges ahead. Pohlad has stated that he expects the team to be competitive by 2026, despite a reduced payroll from previous years. Addressing the roster, particularly in the bullpen, will be a priority for Zoll.

Falvey, reflecting on Zoll’s capabilities, noted, “I have the utmost belief in Jeremy Zoll. His passion, work ethic, and relationship-building are exceptional.” He emphasized that he remains available as a resource but believes Zoll is well-prepared to lead the team forward.

The upcoming season is poised to be pivotal for the Twins as they transition into this new leadership dynamic. With Zoll at the helm, the organization aims to build a competitive roster and restore its standing in the league.
