Lewis County High School Wrestling Team Claims Third at McFly Invitational

The Lewis County High School wrestling team achieved a commendable third-place finish at the annual McFly Outdoor Invitational, held over the weekend at the Battler Center in Philippi, West Virginia. This year’s venue marked a significant change, as the tournament had outgrown its previous location in the Lewis County High School gymnasium, reflecting the growing popularity and participation in the event.

During the competition, the Minutemen demonstrated their prowess by concluding the Friday night portion with a strong 4-1 record. The team secured victories against Doddridge, Gilmer, Nicholas, and Lincoln, with their only defeat occurring against St. Mary’s High School. Ultimately, Lewis County finished behind St. Mary’s, which took first place, and Fairmont Senior, which secured second.

Outstanding Performances and Individual Achievements

Among the highlights for Lewis County was Landon Bush, who stood out as the team’s lone champion. Bush went undefeated throughout the event, earning the top position in the 150-pound weight class. The team also saw impressive performances from its freshmen wrestlers, with Landry Cogar finishing second in the 175-pound class and Zeke Brown taking the runner-up spot in the 132-pound class.

Additional notable finishes included Alek Bragg, who secured third place in the 106-pound class, and Boe Alton, who finished sixth. Other third-place finishes came from Wyatt Hurley (113), William Hovis (157), and Alex Nash-Musgrave (285). In the girls’ division, Raigyn Marti achieved a fourth-place finish, showcasing the talent across all categories.

The tournament received sponsorship from local businesses, including McFly Outdoor, Mountaineer Specialty, and Kaufman Realty and Auctions, highlighting community support for local sports initiatives.

As the wrestling season progresses, the Lewis County Minutemen will look to build on this strong showing, aiming for further successes in upcoming competitions.
