The Louisville Cardinals football team has emerged victorious against Virginia Tech, but the celebration may be muted due to a potential injury to star running back Isaac Brown. Following the game, head coach Jeff Brohm confirmed that Brown “might be out for a little while” after suffering a leg injury late in the fourth quarter.
Brown’s injury occurred with 5:47 remaining in the game. While attempting to reach the sideline, he sustained an apparent non-contact injury to his right leg. Although he was seen walking back to the Louisville sideline under his own power, he was noticeably cautious and favoring his hamstring area. Before exiting the game, Brown had an impressive performance, recording 126 rushing yards and a touchdown, marking his fifth 100-yard game of the season.
The Cardinals secured a 28-16 victory, but Brown’s health is now a major concern for the team. Throughout the season, the 5-foot-9, 190-pound running back has shown resilience despite previous injuries. In all eight games this season, Brown has rushed for a total of 778 yards and scored five touchdowns on 91 carries. Additionally, he has made 11 receptions for approximately 4.2 yards per catch, boasting an impressive average of 8.7 yards per carry prior to the matchup against Virginia Tech. This statistic ranks him among the best in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) for players with at least 50 rushing attempts.
Brown’s performance this year follows a remarkable true freshman season where he rushed for 1,173 yards and 11 touchdowns on 165 carries. His contributions earned him multiple accolades, including Second-Team All-ACC honors and recognition as the ACC Offensive and Overall Rookie of the Year. Furthermore, he was named a Freshman All-American by PFF and 247Sports.
Looking ahead, the Cardinals are set to return to action on November 8, 2023, when they host the California Golden Bears at L&N Stadium. The kickoff is scheduled for 19:00 EST. As the team prepares for this matchup, the status of Isaac Brown will be closely monitored, with fans and teammates hoping for a swift recovery.
