A recent survey conducted by The Athletic highlights the perspectives of NFL players regarding Tom Brady‘s dual role as both the lead in-game analyst for Fox Sports and a minority owner of the Las Vegas Raiders. With concerns about potential conflicts of interest lingering, the survey sought to determine if players believe Brady should manage football operations for the Raiders while also providing commentary for NFL broadcasts.
The results indicate a significant level of support for Brady’s continued involvement in both capacities. Over 84 percent of players surveyed expressed that they are comfortable with him being affiliated with the Raiders while serving as a broadcaster. One unnamed defensive player from an AFC team stated, “I feel like he’s earned the right to do that. He’s respected by a lot of people, with him being one of the greatest to play the game.”
Since January 2023, it has become evident that Mark Davis, the majority owner of the Raiders, has entrusted Brady and general manager John Spytek with substantial control over the team’s football operations. As discussions about Brady’s broadcasting commitments continue, analysts like Mike Florio from Pro Football Talk have suggested that he should prioritize his role with the Raiders over his broadcasting duties.
In 2022, Brady and Fox Sports entered into a lucrative $375 million agreement for a ten-year contract, providing him ample motivation to maintain both roles. Despite this, not all players are in favor of Brady’s dual commitments. Some voiced concerns that his involvement with the Raiders has not translated into on-field success, with one NFC defensive veteran bluntly stating, “The Raiders f—ing suck. How is it helping with that?”
While some players acknowledge the potential for conflict, they also recognize Brady’s stature in the sport. An AFC defensive player remarked that the situation presents a “conflict of interest.” He added, “Even if Tom is being careful, the optics are not good, and it could create an ugly situation down the road.”
Despite these concerns, there is currently no indication that Brady intends to step back from his broadcasting role before the 2026 NFL season. An NFC offensive player who responded negatively to the survey noted the impact on communication during broadcast meetings, mentioning that players might be cautious about what they disclose in front of Brady.
As the debate over Tom Brady’s dual roles continues, it appears that many within the league are willing to accept his unique position, while others remain wary of the implications it may have for both the Raiders and the broader NFL landscape. The outcome of this ongoing discussion could have lasting effects on how professional athletes navigate similar situations in the future.
