No. 6 Addison Faces Top-Ranked Wadley in Class 1A Semifinals

A pivotal showdown is set for Friday night as the No. 6 Addison Bulldogs prepare to host the top-ranked Wadley Bulldogs in the Class 1A semifinals, aiming for a spot in the state championship game. This marks a significant moment for Addison, which last competed for the title in 2005. The matchup will take place at A.G. Hicks Stadium on November 24, 2025.

Since taking over the program in April, Coach Mark Hastings has instilled a win-now mentality, which has resonated throughout the team. The Bulldogs (12-1) have exceeded expectations this season, claiming their first region title since 2018 and setting a school record with 577 points scored this season.

Reflecting on the season’s progress, Hastings noted, “The kids did a great job of learning what we wanted to do. They put in the effort to learn it and then to execute it. They were like sponges.” The team’s rapid development was evident after early season victories against Winston County and Hackleburg, which helped build their confidence.

Addison’s postseason journey has included decisive wins against Ragland, Berry, and Marion County. The upcoming game against Wadley presents a formidable challenge, as the defending state champions bring a 25-game winning streak into the contest. Wadley (13-0) boasts a powerful lineup, highlighted by Jaquez Wilkes, an Auburn commit and consensus four-star prospect, who recently rushed for 371 yards and six touchdowns in a playoff victory over No. 5 Hubbertville.

Statistically, Wadley ranks third in scoring offense with an impressive average of 51.6 points per game and holds a scoring defense that allows just 13.0 points per game. In comparison, Addison ranks fourth in scoring offense at 48.0 points and fifth in scoring defense, allowing 15.0 points per game.

Hastings acknowledged the challenge posed by Wadley, stating, “It’s pretty easy to see why they are 25-0 in their last 25 games. They are really big, have lots of speed and play physical.” He added that while it can be tough to stop their offense, the key will be to limit big plays and capitalize on any mistakes.

The Bulldogs have their own stars, including junior quarterback Elijah Roberts, who has accounted for 41 touchdowns and over 2,100 total yards this season. On defense, Conner Lane has made significant contributions with nine interceptions, three of which were returned for touchdowns. Other players like Seth Hammack, Judah Wilkins, and Trennon Burns have also been vital to the team’s success.

“Controlling the ball will be crucial for us,” Hastings emphasized. “Defensively, we know we’re going to give up some points, but we’re hoping to limit the big plays, make a play here or there, and maybe capitalize on a turnover or mistake.”

The winner of this semifinal will advance to face either No. 2 Maplesville or No. 3 Leroy at UAB’s Protective Stadium for the championship game. Regardless of the outcome, Hastings expressed his gratitude for the season, stating, “It’s been a fun group. You like everybody, they like everybody. There’s no jealousy — everyone pulls for each other.”

As the anticipation builds for this high-stakes clash, both teams will be looking to make their mark in the quest for the Class 1A title.
