Raiders Contribute $250K to Restore Damaged High School Field

A significant donation from the Las Vegas Raiders will aid in the restoration of a high school football field in the Bay Area that suffered damage due to a fire. The NFL team has pledged $250,000 to cover repairs at Mount Diablo High School in Concord, California. This financial support comes after the field was compromised during an incident involving fireworks on August 23, 2023.

Officials from the Mount Diablo Unified School District confirmed that the donation will primarily address the insurance deductible associated with the total repair costs, which are estimated to be nearly $350,000. District superintendent Adam Clark expressed his gratitude, stating, “As a lifelong Raiders fan and past season ticket holder, I couldn’t be more pleased with their generous contribution. With the help of Mark Davis, owner of the Raiders, we have restored the field to its original state!”

Details of the Fire Incident

The fire, which occurred just before the start of the school year, left a significant portion of the football field damaged, including the school’s logo located at the 50-yard line. Surveillance footage revealed that a group of individuals set off fireworks on the field, an act that is believed to have sparked the fire. The exact cause of the incident is still under investigation by local authorities.

The damaged turf field had been installed earlier in 2023, costing between $1 million and $3 million. Following the incident, the team played its first three games on the road while repair crews worked to restore the field. The necessary logo, which had to be specially ordered, was installed earlier this month, marking a crucial step towards revitalizing the field for the school community.

Upcoming Homecoming Game

With the repairs now complete, Mount Diablo High School is set to host its homecoming game against crosstown rival Ygnacio Valley High School at 19:00 on Friday. The school community looks forward to celebrating this pivotal event, underscoring the resilience of both the institution and its supporters.

The Raiders’ contribution not only facilitates the restoration of the football field but also strengthens the bond between the NFL franchise and the local community. As the school prepares to welcome fans back to the field, the impact of this generous donation will be felt for years to come.
