$1 Million Scholarship Launched for LTCC Students Today
BREAKING: Lake Tahoe Community College (LTCC) has just launched the $1 million Schiller Foundation Economics Scholarship aimed at supporting students transferring to four-year universities. This urgent initiative, announced earlier today, is funded by the acclaimed economist and educator Dr. Bradley R. Schiller, reflecting his commitment to fostering education in economics.
The scholarship is designed to assist LTCC students who have shown a keen interest in economics and wish to further their studies. LTCC Superintendent/President Jeff DeFranco emphasized the importance of this scholarship, stating, “This scholarship will honor his remarkable career and ensure that future students carry forward his vision of economics as a force for positive change.”
Dr. Schiller, who has taught at prestigious institutions including American University and the University of California, has a rich history of impacting students globally. His work spans advising U.S. Presidents and writing influential textbooks such as The Economy Today.
The scholarship offers up to $10,000 per year for a maximum of two years, with $7,000 designated for tuition and fees, and $3,000 for books and living expenses. To be eligible, students must demonstrate a strong academic performance and complete two college-level economics courses.
Dr. Schiller stated, “This scholarship is meant to help LTCC students see how economics connects to everyday life and to support their continued success at a four-year university.”
Key eligibility criteria include:
– Completion of two college-level economics courses
– Acceptance at a four-year institution
– A minimum GPA of 3.0 in economics courses
