BREAKING: Two women have been arrested in Scottsdale, Arizona, for a shocking real estate scam involving a home they did not own. Authorities confirm that Rachael Cossette and her accomplice Lezlie Greer attempted to sell a vacant property, leading to urgent police intervention.
The investigation began after the victim received an alarming email from the Maricopa County Recorder’s Office, indicating that the title of his home had been fraudulently transferred to Cossette. The homeowner quickly verified that he was the sole titleholder and had no association with Cossette, who claimed to have inherited the property.
As the scam unfolded, Cossette contacted a real estate investor, falsely claiming the home was hers and that she needed to sell it swiftly. Investigators revealed that an offer had been accepted, and Cossette was scheduled to finalize the sale on November 26. However, she and Greer were apprehended before they could complete the transaction.
Police reported that the suspects had even changed the locks on the victim’s home and installed a lockbox for prospective buyers. The investigation uncovered that Cossette intended to direct the sale proceeds to a bank account belonging to Greer, who was implicated in the scheme.
On November 6, both women attempted to meet with the real estate developer at a title company but fled upon encountering detectives. They were apprehended shortly thereafter.
Cossette now faces serious charges including fraud schemes, forgery, and residential mortgage fraud. Greer is also facing felony charges connected to the fraudulent plot.
This alarming case highlights the increasing prevalence of real estate fraud and the importance of vigilance among homeowners. Authorities are urging anyone who suspects they may be victims of similar schemes to report their concerns immediately.
