BREAKING NEWS: Harold “Hal” Warren, aged 87, has passed away peacefully at Nathan Littauer Hospital on November 29, 2025. This loss reverberates through the communities he touched in Johnstown, NY and beyond.
Warren was born on July 9, 1938, in Camden, NJ, and dedicated his life to serving others. He was a proud member of the Army National Guard for 8 years, contributing to his community in various capacities. Notably, he worked as a Computer Supervisor at Bell Telephone Laboratories in Holmdel, NJ, and later became a Manager at GTE Data Services in Johnstown. His commitment to public service was exemplified through his 18 years as a firefighter for the City of Johnstown.
In 1971, Warren founded the Johnstown Area Volunteer Ambulance Corp (JAVAC), a testament to his passion for aiding those in need. His love for music and theater led him to be an active member of numerous local theater groups, including Colonial Little Theater and The Galway Players. He even volunteered as a percussion instructor at Oppenheim Ephratah School, sharing his talents with the next generation.
Warren is survived by his devoted wife of 66 years, Dawn Warren, and their children, Leslie (Rick) Garber, Heather (Jack) Hladik, and Lindsay Warren. His legacy continues through his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, including Jon (Mariah) Owens, Mike (ToniAnn) Garber, and many more.
The family expresses profound gratitude to the staff at the Nathan Littauer Nursing Home and the SCU at Nathan Littauer Hospital for their compassionate care during his final days.
In lieu of services, a Celebration of Life is planned for Spring, where friends and family will gather to honor his remarkable life. The family encourages donations to the Brennan Humane Society or the Fulton County Regional SPCA in Warren’s memory.
