BREAKING NEWS: Marjorie Sack Hobday, age 95, has passed away peacefully at her home in Burnt Hills, NY, on October 30, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. This beloved matriarch was known for her deep passion for music and her nurturing spirit, making a lasting impact on her community.
Marjorie was born on April 8, 1930, in Niskayuna, NY, to Kenneth Palmer and Florence Louise (Hollins) Sack. She was predeceased by her devoted husband, Richard G. Hobday, after over 53 years of marriage, as well as her brothers, Gordon and Kenneth Sack.
Throughout her life, Marjorie’s love for music flourished. Together with Richard, she participated in numerous musical groups, including the Schenectady Choral Society and the Burnt Hills Oratorio Society. The couple also lent their voices to church choirs, including Calvary Church, which became their musical home.
The Hobdays cherished their summers at their camp on the Sacandaga Reservoir, a place filled with memories of wildlife and outdoor adventures—a setting where Marjorie first met Richard at a square dance. Their shared interests extended beyond music, as they enjoyed writing, painting, and hosting an annual Holiday Art Show for over 40 years.
Marjorie’s resourcefulness was shaped during the Great Depression, as she often crafted and sewed to meet her family’s needs. Her passion for gardening brought beauty to both her home and community, leaving a legacy of harmony and creativity.
She is survived by her son, Gordon Hobday (Carol), daughters Wendy Haugh (Charles) and JoAnn Massad (Richard), grandchildren Katherine, Anne, Henry, Joshua (Elizabeth), Zachary (Andrea), Nicholas (Monica), and great-grandchildren Lilliana, Maxwell, and Freya. She also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, a sister-in-law, and a kind neighbor.
A Mass celebrating Marjorie’s life will be held on Thursday, November 6, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., at Calvary Episcopal Church, located at 85 Lake Hill Rd, Burnt Hills, NY. Following the service, attendees are invited to a reception in the church hall. Marjorie will be laid to rest alongside Richard at the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Calvary Episcopal Church or to the Estherville Animal Shelter in Greenfield Center, NY. Arrangements have been entrusted to Townley & Wheeler Funeral Home, which encourages friends and family to visit Marjorie’s Book of Memories online.
This news comes as the community mourns the loss of a cherished figure, celebrating her life and the love she shared.
