URGENT UPDATE: William Leo Keegan, a cherished figure in Lowell, has passed away at the age of 76 following a brief illness. The announcement came on October 22, 2025, leaving family and friends in mourning for the beloved husband of Mary Elizabeth Townsend and the late Patricia O’Connor.
Born on April 4, 1949, in Lowell, Bill was the eldest son of the late William L. Keegan and Ruth (Lane) Keegan. A proud graduate of St. Peter’s School and Lowell High School, class of 1967, he dedicated many years to the City of Lowell as part of the City Engineer’s Department before his retirement.
Bill was not just an employee; he was a passionate golfer, actively participating in the local golf scene. He represented Long Meadow Golf Club in the Cities Golf Tournament in 1977 and enjoyed countless rounds with friends including Evan Bubanas and Ted O’Brien. His love for golf was matched only by his fondness for reading mysteries and watching classic films.
He is survived by Mary Elizabeth Townsend, his wife, and his brother John Keegan, along with numerous nieces and nephews who will remember him as a loving family member. Predeceased by his sister Constance Parke and brother Robert Keegan, Bill’s passing leaves a significant void in the hearts of many.
A visitation will be held on Friday, October 31, 2025, at 10 AM at The Immaculate Conception Church located at 144 East Merrimack St., Lowell, MA 01852. A Mass will follow at noon, with burial at St. Mary Cemetery in North Tewksbury, MA.
