UPDATE: Major disruptions continue for the highly anticipated Blade movie, as actor Aaron Pierre reveals he is no longer attached to the project due to significant creative shifts. This news comes amid a series of delays and cast changes that have plagued the film since its announcement at San Diego Comic-Con in 2019.
The latest developments indicate that the film, which was originally slated for release on November 3, 2023, has been pushed back multiple times, now set for February 14, 2025, and most recently to November 7, 2025. However, it has now been removed from the MCU’s official release slate, sparking concerns about its future.
Speaking to Men’s Health, Pierre expressed his disappointment, stating, “I remember being cast in Blade and feeling elated. But something I learned during that time was that until you step foot on the set, you haven’t commenced work.” He confirmed that the film took “a different creative direction,” which ultimately led to his departure.
The production has faced a revolving door of directors and writers, including Beau DeMayo from X-Men ’97 and Nic Pizzolatto from True Detective. These changes have resulted in multiple story revisions, including a version set in the 1920s. Kevin Feige, President of Marvel Studios, previously indicated that there were two iterations of the story in both the past and present.
Pierre’s exit is not the only alarming sign; fellow actor Delroy Lindo has also departed the project. However, Mahershala Ali remains committed to portraying the titular character, Blade, alongside Mia Goth, who is reportedly cast as the villain Lilith.
In a twist of fate, since leaving Blade, Pierre has secured a role as John Stewart, the Green Lantern, in James Gunn’s upcoming DC Universe project. His debut is set to occur in HBO’s Lanterns early next year, co-starring with Kyle Chandler.
As fans eagerly await news on the status of Blade, Marvel has yet to announce a new release date. With the film’s future hanging in the balance, the community is left wondering what direction this iconic character will take next.
Stay tuned for more updates as this story develops. The MCU and superhero genre are shifting dramatically, impacting not just fans but the entire landscape of modern cinema.
