Boston Fleet Dominates Vancouver with 2-0 Shutout Victory

UPDATE: The Boston Fleet has just delivered an impressive 2-0 shutout against the Vancouver Goldeneyes in PWHL action on July 12, 2023. Goaltender Aerin Frankel showcased her skills by stopping 21 shots, marking her second shutout of the season and solidifying a record of allowing just one goal in her last two games.

The Fleet wasted no time establishing dominance, with Abby Newhook scoring the opening goal just 5 minutes and 2 seconds into the game. Newhook capitalized on a rebound after Emerance Maschmeyer, the Goldeneyes’ goalie, made back-to-back saves. This marked Newhook’s second goal of the season.

In the third period, Jill Saulnier extended the Fleet’s lead to 2-0 with her first goal of the season at 6 minutes and 40 seconds into the period. The Boston team outshot Vancouver a staggering 31-21 throughout the match, including a commanding 19-2 advantage in the first period alone.

This victory keeps Boston’s unbeaten record intact, improving to 3-0-0-0 as they prepare to face the two-time defending champions, Minnesota, at home this Sunday. Meanwhile, Vancouver wraps up their franchise-debut East Coast trip with a disappointing record, having been outscored 12-2 in their three games.

Local star Emerance Maschmeyer, who has ties to Boston through her time at Harvard and her recent induction into the Beanpot Hall of Fame in 2023, faced a tough night against the relentless Fleet offense.

As the Goldeneyes look to rebound, they will host New York on Saturday for the start of their three-game homestand. Fans will be keen to see if Vancouver can turn the tide after a challenging start.
