Branson Girls Volleyball Advances to NCS Final After Dominating Redwood

UPDATE: The Branson School girls volleyball team has secured a spot in the North Coast Section (NCS) Open Division final after a commanding 25-12, 25-17, 25-21 victory over Redwood High School on November 5, 2025. The Bulls, motivated to defend their title, will face No. 2 Marin Catholic at 7 PM on Saturday at Marin Catholic, in a highly anticipated rematch from last year’s championship.

This decisive win showcases Branson’s determination to remain the only champions of the NCS Open Division, which is in its second year. Outside hitter Ella Tsai expressed the team’s fierce competitive spirit, stating, “It’s something that we feel like belongs to us… we don’t want to see that team take it because we do feel like it’s ours.”

Branson’s offensive strategy was on full display as they raced to a significant lead in the first set, capitalizing on strong serves from Abby King and Blake Cussen. The Bulls quickly established a commanding presence, leading 8-3 and later 17-5, leaving Redwood struggling to find their rhythm. Branson’s libero, Lucy Tusher, noted the advantages of their game experience, saying, “Not being on the court is a big thing.”

With a powerful and diversified attack, Branson showcased their depth, with four players contributing at least nine kills. Tsai led with a remarkable 14 kills, followed by middle blocker Ellie Corsello with 11, and both Cussen and King with 9 each. “We want to mix up the offense,” Tusher added, highlighting their strategy to keep opponents guessing.

Branson head coach Michelle Brazil praised her team’s performance, emphasizing the critical roles played by setters Kate Bianchi and Lily Gross, as well as the defensive efforts that allowed for effective offensive plays. Brazil remarked, “The fact that Ellie got so many sets is indicative of us passing and playing defense so well.”

In the third set, Redwood fought back, briefly holding leads at 16-15 and 20-19. However, a misstep during a crucial moment allowed Branson to regain control and secure their victory, with a final block from King helping to seal the match. A service error from Redwood ultimately sent the Bulls back to the finals.

This upcoming final against Marin Catholic marks the third meeting between the two teams this year. Branson previously defeated Marin Catholic in three sets during the regular season but faced a setback when Marin Catholic claimed victory in their MCAL semifinal showdown. The stakes are high as both teams vie for the championship title.

The excitement builds as fans eagerly anticipate the rematch on Saturday, underscoring the intense rivalry and high expectations for the Branson Bulls. The culmination of this season’s efforts will be on full display as they chase to defend their title in what promises to be an electrifying match against a formidable opponent.
