UPDATE: Community members in Camden County are coming together this afternoon to honor 9-year-old Jordyn Butler, who tragically lost her life in a car accident a week ago. The community vigil is set for 5:30 p.m. today at the Woodbine Boardwalk, where a lantern release will pay tribute to the young girl.
On December 19, Jordyn was playing outside with her brother and friends when she was struck by an SUV near the IGA grocery store in Woodbine. The Camden County Sheriff’s Office received the emergency call around 7 p.m. regarding the incident.
Organizers of the event are urging community members to join them in a peaceful gathering to support Jordyn’s family. “We want to lift up Jordyn’s name, her legacy, and her light,” they stated.
In a heartfelt message on a GoFundMe page set up to assist the family, Jordyn’s loved ones described her as a radiant presence who could “light up a dark room with just her smile.” They emphasized her loving nature and the profound impact she had on everyone around her. “God needed a perfect angel, so He took her home. Please pray for us during this hard time,” the family wrote.
This tragic event has resonated deeply within the community, prompting an outpouring of support and condolences. As the vigil approaches, many are expected to attend to honor Jordyn’s memory and show solidarity with her family during this devastating time.
