BREAKING NEWS: David “Dave” Platt, a beloved figure known for his dedication to safety and community, passed away peacefully at the age of 70 on September 30, 2025, after a short illness. His death marks a profound loss for family and friends, who are mourning the passing of a cherished member of their lives.

Born on June 14, 1955, in Whittier, CA, Dave led a full and impactful life. He grew up actively participating in Scouting, Little League Baseball, and cherished family camping trips. His commitment to education led him to graduate from Calhi School in 1973 before pursuing higher studies at Sonoma State University, where he earned a degree in Anthropology in 1978.

During his time in Northern California, Dave married Jan Vogee, and later moved to the Santa Cruz area, where he built a life with his second wife, Ailene Platt, and welcomed a daughter, Carolanne Baker. Known affectionately as “The Safety Guy,” Dave was a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) for the state of California, where he was instrumental in educating employers on workplace safety.

In 2019, he relocated to Sequim, WA, where he spent his final years surrounded by nature, indulging in his passions for photography, cooking, fishing, gardening, and music, attending numerous concerts throughout his life. His enthusiasm for life also extended to community service, as he was a founding member of the Whittier Boys Club.

Dave is survived by his wife, Merribeth Platt, whom he married in 2006, along with his daughter, sister, and extended family, including three brothers-in-law, two sisters-in-law, three nephews, and two step-grandchildren. His legacy will continue through those who loved him and the countless lives he touched.

In honor of Dave’s memory, family members encourage donations to the American Cancer Society, reflecting his spirit of giving and his commitment to helping others.

As friends and family come together to celebrate Dave’s life, we remember a man who not only taught others how to work safely but also embraced life with joy and passion.

For those wishing to pay their respects, information on memorial services and tributes will be shared in the coming days. Stay tuned for further updates.
