Although the Tigers fell short of the $1 million top prize, this financial boost brings their total earnings from the competition to $75,000.
Over the past weeks, the Dexter community and supporters across Maine rallied behind the Tigers, casting more than 500,000 votes to help improve their athletic facilities. The initiative aimed to fund essential renovations for the football field, which could finally allow for home games under the lights. This collective effort, while not crowned with the grand prize, has united the community and made a significant impact on Dexter’s sports programs.
The Tigers’ impressive showing fell short of Dierks High School in Arkansas, which garnered over 2 million votes. Nevertheless, the competition showcased the strength and spirit of the Dexter community. “We are incredibly thankful to T-Mobile for giving us the opportunity to put a spotlight on our amazing community,” said Dexter athletic director and assistant principal Adam Gudroe. “With the $75,000 we have been awarded, we are even closer to making our goal of adding lights to our football field a reality.”
Dexter has faced challenges maintaining their grass field, particularly with Maine’s unpredictable weather, limiting their ability to host Friday night games.
