UPDATE: Two drivers were arrested for OVI-related offenses in Westlake, Ohio, highlighting urgent concerns over impaired driving. The incidents occurred on October 21 and October 23, 2023, with one driver openly admitting his intoxication.
At 1:15 a.m. on October 23, officers spotted a vehicle without headlights or taillights on Dover Center Road. The 27-year-old Lakewood man behind the wheel struck the curb while pulling over. When approached by police, he immediately stated, “Hey man, just take me to jail.” He confessed to drinking too much to drive and declined to perform field sobriety tests, stating, “Nah, I’m drunk.” He was subsequently arrested for both operating a vehicle while intoxicated and driving without proper lights.
Just two days earlier, at 8 p.m. on October 21, officers assisted a driver with a disabled vehicle on Center Ridge Road near Bradley Road. The 32-year-old Grafton man struggled to remove a spare tire from his SUV, which was ineffective given that both passenger-side tires were flat. Signs of impairment became evident, prompting field sobriety tests that led to his arrest for OVI. A breath test later revealed his blood alcohol content was an alarming three times the legal limit. He was cooperative and later released to a sober driver.
These incidents underline the ongoing challenge of impaired driving in the area and the importance of public awareness. Authorities are urging residents to make responsible choices to ensure safety on the roads.
