URGENT UPDATE: In a significant business transition, Earl L. Enright has officially sold the Enright Oil Company in East Grand Forks, marking the end of a remarkable 36-year legacy. The sale, confirmed today, will take effect on January 1, 1969, as the company is handed over to the Farmers Cooperative Marketing Association.
Enright, a prominent civic leader and former 12-year mayor, is stepping back to dedicate his efforts to ongoing community projects, including the Red River Basin Committee and the ambitious 85-foot Huot Dam project planned for Huot, Minnesota.
“I’ve had the pleasure of serving this wonderful community for over three decades, and I’m proud to say that 75 percent of my customers have been with me throughout that time,” Enright stated, reflecting on his deep ties with local families. His dedication to service has been evident since he established the company with just two pumps in 1944, growing it into a thriving business with a brick structure housing 12 pumps and a fleet of trucks.
As he prepares for semi-retirement, Enright continues to play a vital role in community affairs. He has been instrumental in key civic improvements, such as modernizing the street department and paving major thoroughfares. His leadership has also contributed to enhancing travel facilities and increasing commercial trade in East Grand Forks.
Enright’s work extends beyond business; he has actively contributed to flood prevention efforts along the Red River, a commitment recognized by former governor Karl Rolvaag. The Red River Basin Committee, which he chairs, is crucial in overseeing flood control projects that protect local residents and properties.
Looking ahead, Enright’s focus will remain on community welfare. “The Huot Dam project is progressing, and we are set to begin soil borings in January 1969,” he noted, emphasizing the importance of flood prevention for the region.
Born just three miles outside East Grand Forks, Enright’s roots run deep in the area. He and his wife, Lillian Morrisette, raised four children, instilling in them the values of community service and dedication. Their family has remained connected to East Grand Forks, contributing to the local workforce and education system.
As the Enright Oil Company transitions to new ownership, community members are reminded of Enright’s lasting impact on the region. His commitment to service and civic engagement will continue to shape the future of East Grand Forks.
