Fairfield Police Unveil Shocking Evidence in Wife’s Murder Trial

BREAKING: Fairfield police investigators have provided harrowing testimony in the ongoing trial of Gregory Grant Hobson, 64, accused of murdering his wife, Anu Anand Hobson, 53, and disposing of her body in a rural area of Fresno County. The trial, taking place in Solano County Superior Court, has revealed chilling details about the events leading up to the murder on Valentine’s Day 2023.

During testimony, Deputy District Attorney Bruce Flynn called Detective Keli Callison to the stand. Callison recounted how he responded to a missing person alert regarding Anu Hobson on February 16, leading him to stop Gregory Hobson’s silver Toyota Tacoma near Highway 12 and Walters Road. This pivotal moment set off a series of events that would reveal a gruesome murder case.

Callison testified that upon stopping Hobson, he complied with police orders and was taken into custody. Following this, Detective Dennis Chapman sought a search warrant for Hobson’s vehicle and home in the 400 block of Americano Way. The investigation took a dark turn when, on February 22, the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office discovered a black tote containing a “reddish-brown substance,” indicating potential blood, near Interstate 5 and Kamm Avenue. This was approximately 190 miles south of Fairfield.

A subsequent grid search led to the chilling discovery of a charred body, later confirmed to be that of Anu Hobson. Flynn presented video footage from the Hobson residence, showing Anu entering their home on February 13 and Gregory’s truck at key moments on the day of her disappearance.

As the prosecution laid out its circumstantial case, a shocking moment unfolded when Sean Hobson, the couple’s son, presented a plaque inscribed “Love you to the moon and back,” with the word “love” crossed out in favor of “betray.” This emotional evidence highlights the family’s turmoil amid the allegations.

The investigation also uncovered critical forensic evidence. Crime scene investigator Amy Tudi-Akaka testified about collecting DNA samples from Gregory and searching his truck. In a disturbing revelation, she noted that investigators found $4,800 in cash and a receipt for a hydraulic lift purchased by Gregory at Harbor Freight on February 14. This lift is believed to have been used to transport Anu’s body.

The prosecution’s case relies heavily on circumstantial evidence, including surveillance footage and the presence of Gregory’s DNA at various crime scenes. Key evidence includes a thumb drive with time-stamped videos that track Gregory’s movements on the day of the murder. A CAL FIRE investigator determined that the area around the body showed signs of an accelerant, further implicating Hobson.

As the trial continues, the emotional toll on the family is palpable. Sean expressed disbelief that his father could commit such an act, complicating the already tragic narrative. If found guilty, Gregory faces a potential sentence of 25 years to life in state prison.

The trial is expected to last at least three more weeks, resuming at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday in Department 25 of the Justice Center in Fairfield. The courtroom is set for more shocking revelations as investigators and family members continue to piece together the events of that fateful day.

Stay tuned for updates on this developing story as the trial unfolds, revealing the complexities of a case that has gripped the community and beyond.
