UPDATE: The Fitchburg State Falcons marked a momentous occasion Saturday morning, receiving their championship rings to celebrate their 2024-25 MASCAC title. The ceremony took place in Hammond Hall, capping off a thrilling season that ended in March.
Fitchburg State President Donna Hodge addressed the players and staff, stating, “It’s your tireless commitment to excellence that has brought such tremendous pride to this campus.” Hodge emphasized that the championship was a collective achievement, recognizing the families, coaches, and training staff who contributed to the team’s success.
The Falcons, who entered the playoffs as the fourth seed, showcased incredible resilience by defeating No. 5 Worcester State in the quarterfinals and triumphing in a triple-overtime thriller against No. 3 Salem State in the semifinals. They capped their championship run on home ice, overcoming No. 8 MCLA to secure the title.
Head Coach Dean Fuller reflected on the season, stating, “It was a rollercoaster… I was very proud of this team. Winning’s not easy.” All players, coaches, trainers, and administrators were honored with championship rings during the ceremony.
Captain Michael Macchioni, who missed the playoff run due to injury, expressed his gratitude, saying, “It’s honestly so surreal to be getting these rings and feeling this love again.” Macchioni highlighted the emotional support he received from his teammates, especially his brothers, Max and Marcus, who played on the team.
After receiving their rings, the Falcons quickly shifted focus, preparing for an immediate challenge against Babson later that day.
Graduate student and captain Christian Halbig recounted the pivotal moment of the season—his game-winning goal in the semifinal against Salem State. “Honestly, it was surreal… It’s something I can look back on in 10, 15, 20 years and be really proud of,” he said, reflecting on the exhilaration of that critical moment.
The Falcons are eager to maintain their momentum as they head into their next game, building on the pride and energy generated from their championship victory.
