BREAKING: A family of 8 has been left homeless after a devastating fire early this morning in the Township of Chilton, Wisconsin. At approximately 5:30 a.m. on October 14, 2023, the Chilton Fire Department responded to an emergency call regarding a house fire on Hickory Hills Road.
When firefighters arrived, they encountered heavy smoke and flames engulfing the first floor of the home. Fortunately, all family members managed to escape and were transported to a local hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation; they have since been released. A firefighter sustained injuries during the response but has also been treated and released.
The fire department initially attempted to combat the fire from inside the home but quickly switched to an exterior attack as the flames compromised the structural integrity of the first floor. Firefighters successfully prevented the flames from reaching the attic by entering the second floor.
The damage is extensive, with the family losing all their belongings to fire, smoke, and water. The community is rallying to support the family, initiating clothing donation drives to help them during this difficult time.
Multiple local fire departments—including those from Hilbert, Potter, Stockbridge, New Holstein, Harrison, Brillion, and the Town of Calumet—joined the Chilton Fire Department in battling the blaze. Assistance also came from Ascension Calumet Hospital, County Rescue of Brillion, Gold Cross Ambulance of the Fox Valley, and the Calumet County Sheriff’s Office.
As the community continues to lend support, officials are investigating the cause of the fire. Residents are encouraged to contribute to the donation efforts to help the displaced family get back on their feet.
