After trailing by as much as 12 points in the first half, Farmington demonstrated resilience and skill to clinch the victory at home.
Farmington’s forward Madison Clay played a pivotal role, scoring 11 of her 18 points in the crucial fourth quarter. The Knights, now 3-0, overcame a sluggish start that saw them trailing 20-8 after the first quarter. With just over a minute remaining, Kate Jenkerson assisted Clay on key baskets to secure the win, avenging last season’s loss to Hazelwood West.
The Knights’ defense tightened significantly in the second and third quarters, limiting Hazelwood West to just seven points across these periods. Despite a standout performance from Hazelwood’s Jamiah Herring, who scored a staggering 31 points including 15-of-15 from the free-throw line, the Wildcats (now 0-2) could not withstand Farmington’s late-game surge.
The turning point came with 3:33 remaining in the third quarter, when Ella Scott drained a three-pointer, giving Hazelwood West a brief lead at 33-30. However, Farmington quickly rallied back with jumpers from Jenkerson and Lila Roth, who contributed 15 points to the Knights’ scoring.
As the fourth quarter unfolded, excellent ball movement led to a crucial three-pointer from Roth, followed by an impressive assist from Jenkerson to Clay, extending Farmington’s lead to 55-44. The game concluded with Farmington holding off a last-minute charge from the Wildcats, who fell short despite their strong performance.
In other local action, North County defeated Steelville 68-45, with Raegan Pierce leading the Lady Raiders with 19 points. Meanwhile, West County dominated Kingston, winning 69-11 in a commanding display. The Bismarck Lady Indians also showcased their strength with a resounding 71-9 victory over Valley.
