Georgia DOT Awards $86.3 Million in Urgent Infrastructure Contracts

UPDATE: The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) has just awarded $86.3 million in contracts for critical infrastructure projects, including extensive road resurfacing and bridge construction, during its State Transportation Board meeting held in October. This significant investment was confirmed on October 31 and detailed in a GDOT press release issued earlier this month.

The largest single project focuses on I-75/State Route 401, where a major resurfacing initiative will cover 17.245 miles starting from the Florida state line and extending north of US 84/SR 38 in Lowndes County. The contract, valued at approximately $31 million, has been awarded to Reames and Son Construction Company based in Valdosta.

This urgent funding will address essential maintenance needs as 72 percent of the total awarded funds—around $62.5 million—is allocated for resurfacing projects. These crucial updates aim to enhance driving safety and improve transportation efficiency across Georgia.

Additional projects include:

– Construction of a bridge on Moultrie-Lenox Road over Gum Creek in Colquitt County, valued at nearly $2 million, awarded to Southern Concrete of Albany.

– Milling and rehabilitation of approximately 17 miles of State Route 33 in Brooks and Thomas counties, with a contract worth $4.8 million going to Reames and Son of Valdosta.

– Building a bridge on Homerville Bypass over Woodyard Creek in Clinch County, valued at just over $2 million, awarded to Griffin Grading and Concrete, LLC, from Cordele.

These projects are not only critical for infrastructure but also symbolize an investment in the future of Georgia’s transportation landscape. As construction ramps up, local economies can expect job creation and improved access to vital services.

Residents and commuters in affected areas should prepare for potential disruptions as these projects commence. The GDOT is committed to keeping the public informed about progress and timelines.

Stay tuned for further updates as this story develops. With substantial investments like these, the state is taking decisive action to enhance safety and connectivity for all Georgians.
