John A. Pickar, 62, Passes Away Unexpectedly in Duluth
BREAKING: John A. Pickar, a beloved member of the Duluth community, has passed away unexpectedly at the age of 62. He died on October 14, 2025, just days after celebrating his birthday on October 3. This sudden loss has left family and friends in shock as they mourn a man known for his warmth and generosity.
Born in Duluth, Minnesota, John was a proud graduate of East High School and later earned a bachelor’s degree in liberal arts from UMD. He dedicated his professional life to his work at Great Lakes Office Solutions and was actively involved in the Rotary Club, where he made a significant impact through community service.
John is survived by his mother, Peg Pickar, as well as siblings Christine Beck, Bruce (Amber) Pickar, and Andrew (Kate) Pickar. His legacy continues through his nieces and nephews: Joshua (Desiree) Butler, Arelle Kauffman, Danyell (Andrew) Cameron, Josie Pickar, Elise Pickar, and Frances Pickar.
John’s faith played a central role in his life, guiding him in his passions for snowmobiling, hunting, and fishing. He particularly cherished moments spent with friends during fishing openers and at his deer shack in Finland, where he enjoyed playing cribbage, relaxing in saunas, and reflecting on life.
An avid collector, John was known for his extensive collection of old beer cans and memorabilia, proudly associating with the Beer Can Collectors of America. Friends and family remember him as someone who could light up any room with his humor and kindness. He was a devoted friend who went out of his way to help others and engaged in meaningful conversations with everyone he met.
A Celebration of John’s life is planned for a later date, with arrangements being handled by Dougherty Funeral Home in Duluth. The family invites all who knew John to remember him fondly and to share their stories as they navigate this profound loss.
As updates emerge regarding the memorial plans, family and friends are encouraged to stay connected and support one another during this difficult time. John A. Pickar will be dearly missed by many, leaving behind a legacy of friendship, laughter, and love.
