Kia Unveils New Niro Design Amid Uncertainty for EV Version

UPDATE: Kia has just unveiled the redesigned Niro in South Korea, but questions loom over the future of its electric version. The new design, revealed on October 17, 2023, showcases a fresh exterior and interior aimed at aligning with Kia’s latest electric models, including the EV3, EV5, and EV9.

The updated Niro features a smaller front end and the new Starmap Signature Lighting, enhancing its eco-friendly appeal. It now boasts rugged enhancements such as new wheel arch cladding and striking 18-inch wheels that provide a modern twist. The rear has a sleek LED lamp graphic, creating a dynamic 3D effect that sets it apart from competitors.

Inside, the Niro adopts a similar look to Kia’s recent EVs, featuring a 12.3-inch digital cluster and infotainment system, along with upgrades to the steering wheel and dashboard for improved functionality.

However, uncertainty surrounds the Niro EV’s availability. Reports from The Korean Car Blog hint that Kia may phase out the Niro EV, with the EV3 potentially taking its place. The current 2025 Kia Niro EV starts at $39,600 in the US, with an EPA-estimated range of up to 253 miles.

At the LA Auto Show, Kia America’s marketing chief, Russel Wager, reaffirmed plans to introduce the EV3 to the US market, despite delays with the EV4. Notably, while Kia has announced the 2026 Niro, details on the PHEV or EV variants remain undisclosed.

Kia plans to provide more information regarding prices, powertrain options, and specs for the new Niro in March 2024. As anticipation builds, consumers are left wondering whether to invest in the Niro EV or wait for the EV3.

In the meantime, Kia is enticing buyers with significant offers, including a $10,000 Customer Cash Bonus on the 2025 EV6, Niro EV, and 2026 EV9. As the market shifts, the decision between the Niro EV and the upcoming EV3 will significantly impact Kia’s lineup.
