Lindsey Vonn Secures 142nd Podium with Bronze in Val d’Isere

UPDATE: Lindsey Vonn has just clinched her 142nd career podium with back-to-back bronze medals at the Val d’Isere World Cup in France. This thrilling finish comes on December 21, 2025, as Vonn continues to solidify her legendary status in alpine skiing.

In a gripping super-G race, Italy’s Sofia Goggia dominated the field, clocking in at 1 minute, 20.24 seconds to secure her first win of the season. New Zealand’s Alice Robinson took second, while Vonn finished just 0.36 seconds off the lead in third place.

Goggia, who previously faced disappointment after a costly mistake in Saturday’s downhill, expressed her emotional journey post-race. “Yesterday was really an emotional day for me. I was really angry; I was really disappointed with myself,” she shared with reporters. Her victory today marks a significant comeback, tying her with Hilde Gerg for eighth place on the all-time super-G wins list. Vonn leads this list with an astonishing 28 wins.

Robinson started strong but struggled with the windy conditions, stating, “I was a little annoyed when I came through the finish because it was so close and I thought I could have done it better.” Despite her challenges, Robinson remains a fierce competitor, leading the GS and super-G cup standings.

Vonn’s performance was a mix of near misses and strategic racing. She began strong but lost time after brushing a gate off the Le Telephone jump. However, she regained her pace and matched Goggia’s speed in critical segments of the course. “I didn’t quite have enough direction on the first jump,” Vonn explained. “After that, I skied well.” Her consistent results of 2-1-2-4-3-3 in her last six races indicate her strong form.

The podium ceremony showcased the emotional weight of the event, with Goggia celebrating alongside Robinson and Vonn, who reflected on her achievements. “It’s really hard to always be on the podium, so I’m walking away with a smile,” the 41-year-old veteran stated.

American teammate Keely Cashman finished in 11th place, just 0.24 seconds shy of the podium, while other Americans like Tricia Mangan and Mary Bocock also competed, finishing in 24th and 33rd respectively.

Looking ahead, the women’s World Cup circuit will move to Semmering for a pair of tech races on December 27-28. Meanwhile, the speed racers will take a break until January, when downhill and super-G events will be held in Zauchensee on January 10-11.

As Vonn continues to defy age and expectations, her journey remains a source of inspiration for fans and aspiring athletes worldwide.
