Logan Cooley Stars with Two Goals as Mammoth Win Sixth Straight
BREAKING: The Utah Mammoth have secured their sixth consecutive victory, dominating the Minnesota Wild with a decisive score of 6-2 in St. Paul, Minnesota, on February 3, 2024. Star forward Logan Cooley shone brightly, scoring two goals within the first 3:29 of the game.
Just 56 seconds into the match, Cooley showcased his skill by backhanding the puck out of midair, giving Utah an early 1-0 lead. He followed up with another goal on the power play at the 3:29 mark, capitalizing on a slashing penalty against Minnesota’s Yakov Trenin.
The Mammoth quickly extended their lead to 3-0 when Nick Schmaltz scored his sixth goal of the season less than two minutes later. However, the Wild fought back, with veteran Marcus Johansson scoring twice to bring Minnesota within striking distance. Johansson’s first goal came from a one-timer with 4:21 left in the first period, marking his second goal of the season.
Johansson added a second goal late in the second period, making it 3-2 after receiving a slick back-handed pass from Vinnie Hinostroza. The tension built as JJ Peterka extended Utah’s lead to 4-2 with 6:23 remaining in the third period, followed by Schmaltz netting his second goal of the night for a 5-2 advantage.
Utah’s stellar performance was supported by goalie Karel Vejmelka, who made 32 saves throughout the match. An empty-net goal from John Marino with just 5.1 seconds left sealed the victory.
The Mammoth will aim to extend their winning streak to seven games as they head to Winnipeg for their next matchup on Sunday. This ongoing success not only showcases the team’s skill but also reinforces their position as a formidable contender in the league.
Fans are urged to stay tuned for more updates as the Mammoth continue their pursuit of victory!
