Mary Ingleby, 75, Passes Away After Long Battle with Alzheimer’s
UPDATE: Mary Ruth Ingleby, a beloved educator and community figure, has passed away peacefully at the age of 75 after a prolonged struggle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Her family confirmed the news earlier today, marking the end of a life filled with passion for teaching, music, and compassion for others.
Born on June 22, 1950, in Salt Lake City, Mary was the third of six children in the Ingleby family. Her early life was marked by significant challenges, including the adoption of her first child at age sixteen, an event that profoundly influenced her dedication to nurturing young minds. After earning an Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education from Cabrillo College, she devoted herself to teaching children ages three to five, including her second son, Damian, who developed a lifelong love for reading.
Mary spent 53 years in Santa Cruz, a community she cherished for its ocean views and vibrant culture. Known for her fierce advocacy for animals and minorities, she dedicated much of her time and resources to causes close to her heart. Music was also a cornerstone of her life; she participated in numerous choirs and singing duos, filling her home with melodies that resonated with family and friends.
In a heartfelt reunion later in life, Mary reconnected with her first child, Bill. Their relationship blossomed, providing both with cherished memories before Bill’s untimely passing in his mid-30s. Mary is survived by her second son, Damian, and her younger sister, Colette.
A memorial gathering is scheduled for Saturday, October 18, 2025, at 12 PM at Seacliff State Beach. Friends and family are invited to celebrate her life and legacy. For more information, contact 406-552-9696 or email [email protected].
