Micro Farm in Altadena Reopens After Devastating Eaton Fire
URGENT UPDATE: A beloved micro farm in Altadena has officially reopened to the community after being devastated by the Eaton Fire. The family-run business, Experience Fable, is welcoming visitors to meet their rescued animals, including chickens, sheep, and goats.
Just days after the fire forced White and Joey Chavez to evacuate with their 70 animals, the family is now focused on rebuilding their life and farm on Loma Alta Drive. Thanks to a crucial $10,000 grant from LISC LA and Wells Fargo, they have secured new fencing and facilities to accommodate their animals, most of which were saved from the flames.
“This grant came at the perfect time,” said White, reflecting on the challenges they faced during the evacuation. The animals, displaced from their home, were temporarily housed in various locations, including Venice Beach and the LA Equestrian Center, before ending up in San Diego.
The reopening of Experience Fable marks a significant milestone in their recovery journey. White expressed her excitement about the farm’s future, stating, “That’s the next step, is to find the right place to put all these guys so people can come to us on a regular basis. This is home.”
While the farm is expected to be open once a week for small local groups, the family is actively searching for a more permanent location in Altadena. The emotional impact of the fire and the subsequent rebuilding process have brought the community together, with many local supporters eager to help.
In a heartfelt reminder of resilience, the sounds of animals fill the air again, symbolizing hope and renewal for the Chavez family. Experience Fable is not only a place for family and animals; it represents a community coming together in the face of adversity.
As the situation develops, residents are encouraged to visit and support this local treasure. Keep an eye on their social media for updates on visiting hours and future events.
For those interested in supporting the rebuilding efforts, donations and volunteer opportunities will be announced soon. Stay tuned for more updates on this heartwarming story of recovery and community spirit in Altadena.
