Monroe County DA Brian Green Unveils Vision, Tackles Case Chaos
UPDATE: Monroe County District Attorney Brian Green has just outlined his transformative vision for the District Attorney’s Office in Rochester, N.Y., following his recent appointment by Gov. Kathy Hochul. In an urgent interview on October 21, 2025, Green emphasized the need for significant changes in the office’s environment and culture.
Green’s appointment comes nearly a month after the controversial resignation of former DA Sandra Doorley, who stepped down amid public scrutiny and censure related to a problematic traffic stop. “It feels great to be back,” Green stated, highlighting his commitment to restore trust in the community through transparency and effective case management.
Addressing the pressing issue of case reassignments, Green revealed that his office is currently managing approximately 300 cases from his previous role as a town justice in Irondequoit. “The most challenging part has been navigating these cases, especially those that were assigned a special prosecutor,” he explained. “Our office cannot engage in any case presented while I was a judge.”
Green’s proactive approach aims to clarify recent case dismissals and enhance community communication. “By handling cases appropriately and keeping the public informed, we can rebuild trust,” he asserted, referencing the recent dismissal of the Kuhn indictment related to a cold case homicide.
For the first time in a decade, a Democrat leads the Monroe County DA’s office, but Green insists that politics will not dictate his decisions. “This is not a political office, and it can’t be a political office,” he affirmed. “I understand the necessity of being a politician to maintain the role, but my focus remains on ethical and professional conduct.”
Currently, Green is prioritizing the filling of seven assistant DA positions that remain vacant. He is determined to ensure that every staff member operates with integrity and professionalism, stating, “We will protect the community.”
As Green settles into his role, the community is keenly watching how these changes will unfold. With a renewed focus on ethical practices and community engagement, the Monroe County District Attorney’s Office is poised for a significant transformation under Green’s leadership.
Stay tuned for more updates as Green implements his vision for a more accountable and community-focused office.
