New Community Garden Launches Today in Pottstown’s Grateful Harvest

UPDATE: A new community garden, the Grateful Harvest Community Garden, officially opened today in Pottstown, bringing fresh produce and educational opportunities to local residents. This collaborative initiative, launched by First Presbyterian Church and Trellis for Tomorrow, is located at 750 N. Evans Street and aims to foster community engagement and food security.

The garden, supported by funding from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), features 15 rentable garden beds, including accessible options with drip irrigation and deer fencing. It’s designed to not only produce food but also enhance community connections. Local residents can rent plots starting in 2026, while volunteer-led harvests will provide fresh produce to food access programs across the borough in the interim.

“This garden is an extension of our faith in action,” stated Susan Moyer, Mission Committee Chair at First Presbyterian Church. “It reflects our values of service, stewardship, and neighborliness. We’re proud to see this dream growing into reality.”

The grand opening celebration took place today, featuring garden tours, refreshments, and local speakers. Community members learned about opportunities to rent garden beds and volunteer for the upcoming season.

Trellis for Tomorrow, a nonprofit founded in 2003, is dedicated to supporting youth and communities through programs in sustainable agriculture and food justice. Executive Director Jennifer Anderson emphasized the importance of collaboration: “Working towards a system of food security and sustainability means we go beyond simply feeding people. It requires respect, collaboration, and the cultivation of collective resilience.”

This new initiative is more than just a garden; it serves as a hub for education and empowerment within the community. It aims to address local food insecurity while promoting sustainable practices and community involvement.
