New Photos Released of Tucson Shooting Suspect as Victim Identified

UPDATE: Authorities have just released new photos of a man identified as a “person of interest” in a Tucson shooting that left two Goodwill employees in critical condition. The incident occurred on July 15, 2023, around 9:30 a.m. at a donation center located in the 7600 block of East Valencia Road, near South Los Reales Road.

As the investigation unfolds, one of the victims has been identified as Juan Cristobal Flores, a beloved University of Arizona student and local opera singer. A GoFundMe account reveals that Flores was working part-time at the Goodwill center when he was shot. The fundraiser appeals for support, stating, “Juan Cristobal has spent his life lifting others through music. Now, he needs our voices, our prayers, and our help.”

In a heartfelt statement, Catalina United Methodist Church, where Flores is a cherished member, expressed their shock and sorrow. The church highlighted his contributions through their Scholar Singers program, stating, “Juan has been part of the Catalina UMC family for more than ten years, sharing his extraordinary voice and generous spirit with our congregation.”

Both victims were transported to local hospitals, where they remain in critical condition. Their identities, apart from Flores, have not been publicly confirmed by authorities, who typically only release the names of deceased victims.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department has described the suspect as approximately six feet tall and weighing about 200 pounds. They are urging anyone with information to come forward but specifically advise against approaching the individual. The investigation has also released images of a stolen vehicle linked to the suspect: a white 2012 Volvo XC 90 with Arizona license plate number C4A8Z4.

“Catalina United Methodist Church is shocked and deeply saddened by the news of the recent shooting involving Juan Cristobal Flores,” the church stated on Facebook.

This developing story has raised significant concern in the Tucson community, prompting many to rally for support for the victims. As the investigation continues, community members are encouraged to stay vigilant and report any information that could assist law enforcement.
