URGENT UPDATE: The Tunnel to Towers Foundation is stepping in to pay off the mortgage for the family of fallen Burnsville firefighter and paramedic Adam Finseth. This generous act comes through the Fallen First Responder Home Program as part of the foundation’s 2025 Season of Hope, ensuring financial stability for Finseth’s loved ones during this tragic time.
On February 18, 2024, Finseth, aged 40, lost his life heroically while responding to a domestic violence call in Burnsville, Minnesota. He was ambushed, along with Burnsville police officers Matt Ruge and Paul Elmstrand, both 27, when a gunman opened fire. Finseth had been off duty that day, but as one of the department’s SWAT medics, he did not hesitate to answer the call for help, knowing that children were at risk.
In a poignant tribute, Burnsville Fire Chief BJ Jungmann praised Finseth’s bravery, stating, “He showed his commitment and unwavering dedication when he responded … in the middle of the night because seven children were at risk.” Tragically, during the incident, as Finseth attempted to provide medical aid to an officer, the assailant shot him. The gunman later turned the weapon on himself, but thankfully, the girlfriend and children in the home were unharmed.
The Tunnel to Towers Foundation, inspired by the heroism displayed on September 11, 2001, aims to support families of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. On their website, they highlighted Finseth’s courage, noting he “acted without hesitation in his last moments.”
This significant financial relief is crucial for the Finseth family, allowing them to focus on healing and remembering their loved one without the burden of impending mortgage payments. The community continues to rally around the family, showcasing the spirit of solidarity following this heartbreaking loss.
As this story unfolds, more details are expected to emerge regarding the community’s support for the Finseth family and how they plan to honor Adam’s legacy. For now, the Tunnel to Towers Foundation’s commitment serves as a beacon of hope amid tragedy, reminding us of the sacrifices made by first responders every day.
