Pilot Severely Injured in Urgent Ultralight Plane Crash in Escalante
BREAKING: A pilot has sustained severe injuries following an ultralight plane crash in Escalante, Utah, earlier today. The incident occurred at approximately 12:30 p.m. when the pilot, who has not yet been identified, took off from the Escalante Airport.
According to Wade Mathews with the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office, the ultralight aircraft crashed shortly after takeoff on the east end of the airport. Emergency responders rushed to the scene, where the pilot was found with fractured both legs and one arm. He was airlifted to St. George Regional Hospital for urgent medical attention.
This incident raises concerns as ultralight planes are not regulated by the Federal Aviation Administration, meaning there will be no investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board.
Authorities are working to ensure the safety of future flights and have emphasized the importance of adhering to safety protocols during ultralight operation. The community is urged to remain vigilant as the investigation continues into the circumstances surrounding this crash.
