URGENT UPDATE: The Salvation Army is racing against the clock to collect hundreds of toy donations, aiming to ensure 400 local families can celebrate a joyful Christmas this year. With only one week left before distribution begins, the organization reports a critical shortage of toys.
At the Kroc Center in San Diego, toys including basketballs, dolls, and colored markers are piled high, but the collection is still far from reaching the necessary target. Glynis Eckert, director of marketing for the Kroc Center, emphasized the urgency: “We’re hoping to provide every parent with three or four toys for their children.”
The Salvation Army is specifically seeking donations for older children, as they typically receive more gifts for younger age groups. “Our pre-selected families register children from 0 to 12, so we need toys that cater to all age groups,” said Janet Reade, director of volunteers and community engagement.
The clock is ticking. Next week, parents on a pre-registered list will choose toys for their children. If donations do not meet the demand, the Salvation Army will be forced to purchase toys, resulting in a significant financial burden that could hinder their broader mission of spreading holiday joy.
“We want to create a complete Christmas experience for these families,” Eckert continued. “This means providing a sack full of toys, along with gift wrap, bows, and gift tags, in addition to a food box.”
As the holiday season approaches, the need for community support is more crucial than ever. Donations can be made in person at the Kroc Center, online, or through monetary contributions. Click here to donate and help make a difference in the lives of local families this Christmas.
