SCV Chamber Honors Veterans at 15th Annual Salute to Patriots

URGENT UPDATE: The Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce held its 15th annual Salute to Patriots event on November 5, 2025, honoring local veterans for their continued service to the community. The ceremony took place at the SCV Senior Center at Bella Vida, where local leaders gathered to celebrate the remarkable contributions of these everyday heroes.

Seven veterans were recognized for their unwavering dedication to the Santa Clarita Valley (SCV), including Anthony Straight, Vernon Charles Miller, Juan Blanco, Robert Lasher, Sheriff’s Deputy Keith Wells, and Eric White. Although Camille Applin-Jones could not attend, she will be honored at next year’s ceremony.

The event serves as a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made by veterans. “You are not only defenders of our country, but also the pride of our community,” said Di Thompson, 2025 chair of the board for the SCV Chamber. Her heartfelt words resonated with attendees, emphasizing the vital role veterans play in shaping a strong community.

Community involvement is key to this event, as residents are encouraged to nominate veterans who positively impact the SCV business community but may not receive the recognition they deserve. Ivan Volschenk, president and CEO of the SCV Chamber, reiterated the importance of acknowledging these unsung heroes.

As each honoree was introduced, local leaders highlighted their unique contributions to the SCV. For instance, Robert Lasher passionately shared how volunteering at the SCV Food Pantry has provided him with purpose after the loss of his wife during the pandemic. “It was nice that they were there to help me out and for me to help them out,” he said, illustrating the profound connection between service and community support.

The emotional atmosphere reached new heights as Emily White introduced her husband, Eric, as one of the honorees. “I love that he has a servant’s heart,” she expressed, capturing the essence of dedication that these veterans embody.

Santa Clarita Mayor Bill Miranda reinforced the city’s commitment to supporting veterans. “This community supports our veterans and always has, always will,” he stated, urging everyone to understand the challenges veterans face. His remarks underscored the ongoing need for community support and resources for those who have served.

This year’s Salute to Patriots not only honored individual achievements but also fostered a spirit of unity and gratitude within the SCV. The event showcased the vital importance of recognizing the sacrifices made by veterans, encouraging a culture of appreciation and support.

As the SCV Chamber looks to the future, community members are urged to continue nominating deserving veterans. The ongoing commitment to honor these heroes is vital in ensuring their contributions are recognized and celebrated.
