Silverthorne Man Sentenced to 5 Years for Sexual Assault on Minor

UPDATE: A Silverthorne man has been sentenced to five years in prison following his guilty plea to charges of sexual assault on a minor. Jason Brown, aged 45, was sentenced on January 26, 2025, after being arrested by the Summit County Sheriff’s Office on October 2, 2024.

The sentencing marks a significant moment for justice in a case that revealed disturbing details of Brown’s relationship with an underage individual. Prosecutors stated that over the course of a year, Brown made over 1,000 calls to the victim and provided them with alcohol, cocaine, and ketamine. He was accused of overpowering and drugging the victim before committing sexual assault.

The court heard from Deputy District Attorney Samuel Martinez, who emphasized the need for a five-year sentence to reflect the severity of Brown’s actions. Brown’s plea agreement allowed him to avoid five felony sexual assault charges, pleading guilty instead to second-degree assault, a Class 5 felony.

In a shocking twist, Brown’s sentence will run concurrently with a similar sentence related to a domestic violence case in Lake County. In total, his fines and court costs amount to about $400. During the hearing, Brown expressed remorse, stating he must face the consequences of his actions and hopes to become a “better person and father” during his time in prison.

The context of this case highlights a troubling trend in sexual crimes against minors, drawing attention to the necessity of stringent legal consequences. While Brown’s defense attorney, Todd Barson, sought credit for time served while Brown wore a GPS monitor during his bond, Judge Reed Owens opted to stick with the terms of the plea agreement, allowing only three days of credit.

As the community grapples with the implications of this case, it serves as a stark reminder of the vulnerabilities faced by minors. The investigation and subsequent sentencing shed light on the critical need for protective measures and awareness in local areas.

Authorities confirmed that the sentencing serves as a crucial step toward accountability, but the road ahead involves ongoing discussions about safeguarding the youth against similar threats. As this case continues to unfold, communities are urged to remain vigilant and proactive in addressing the issues surrounding sexual assault and the protection of minors.

Brown was taken into custody immediately following the sentencing, marking the end of a harrowing chapter for the victim and their family. As the court proceedings conclude, the impact of this case extends beyond the courtroom, stirring conversations about safety and justice in our society.
