UPDATE: Authorities have confirmed the identities of six individuals who tragically lost their lives in a series of traffic accidents across San Diego County over the past two weeks. This urgent news highlights a concerning spike in fatalities on local roads.
The most recent fatality occurred just after 11:55 p.m. on Saturday, when a vehicle struck Alexander Leroux, 57, in the 3500 block of India Street in the Middletown district. Paramedics rushed Leroux to UCSD Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. This incident follows another pedestrian fatality just hours earlier, when Eduardo Sanchez, 83, was hit by a 2011 Jeep Liberty around 6 p.m. on East San Ysidro Boulevard, leading to severe injuries including a brain bleed. He succumbed to his injuries the following evening.
Earlier last week, Esteban Rodriguez, 21, died in a single-vehicle crash in Spring Valley around 5:30 a.m. on November 15. His northbound sedan veered off state Route 125 and crashed into a tree, resulting in fatal injuries at the scene.
On November 20, at about 4:30 a.m., Guillermo Pagan, 55, was struck by an eastbound SUV while walking on state Route 94 in Jamul. Tragically, he died before he could be transported to a hospital.
Just prior, on November 19, Eleanor Anslow, 38, was struck by multiple vehicles while in the roadway on Mission Gorge Road in San Carlos at around 4:45 a.m., leading to her death at the scene.
Finally, on November 18, Lucy Prewitt Starkes, 89, suffered extensive injuries following a collision at a Jamacha-area intersection. Her Volkswagen Jetta was struck while making a left turn shortly after 10:30 a.m.. Despite being taken to Scripps Mercy Hospital for treatment, she passed away six days later.
