Stephen Curry’s Late Surge Tops Aaron Gordon’s 50-Point Game
UPDATE: In a thrilling overtime showdown, the Golden State Warriors triumphed over the Denver Nuggets 137-131 on October 26, 2023, as Stephen Curry delivered a stunning performance, overshadowing Aaron Gordon‘s incredible 50-point night.
With the game tied late, Curry hit a crucial 3-pointer and scored 16 consecutive points to propel the Warriors, who improved to 2-0 this season. Curry finished with 42 points, demonstrating his clutch ability when it mattered most. “It’s kind of like a playoff type vibe,” Curry said after the game.
Gordon, meanwhile, had a historic performance, joining the ranks of NBA greats with the seventh 50-point season opener in league history. His record-setting night included 10 3-pointers, breaking the franchise record for the Nuggets set by Alex English. Despite his achievements, Gordon expressed disappointment over the loss. “It sucks. I don’t want to take the L with me,” he lamented.
The game was tightly contested, with the Warriors trailing by seven points late in the fourth quarter. Curry’s pivotal free throws with 2:42 remaining sparked a comeback, leading to his game-tying 3-pointer with just 21.4 seconds left. Gordon answered with a 3-pointer of his own, putting Denver ahead 120-117.
“Ridiculous,” Curry remarked about Gordon’s shooting performance. “Whatever he did this summer worked.” The game advanced to overtime after Nikola Jokic missed a potential game-winner at the buzzer.
In the extra session, Curry dominated, scoring seven points while receiving support from teammates like Al Horford and Jimmy Butler, solidifying the Warriors’ victory. Following Butler’s late 3-pointer, Curry celebrated with his signature “night night” gesture, a fitting end to a remarkable game.
The Nuggets face questions about how they could not secure a win despite Gordon’s stellar outing. “Aaron had a night I’ll never forget,” Nuggets coach David Adelman said, acknowledging the tough loss.
Fans and analysts will be watching closely as both teams look to build on this electrifying opener. The Warriors will seek to maintain momentum while the Nuggets aim to bounce back in their next game.
