Tumwater Falls to Woodland 58-47 in 2A District Quarterfinal

BREAKING: Tumwater’s hopes for a championship run ended in a hard-fought battle against Woodland, losing 58-47 in the 2A District 4 Quarterfinal held in Woodland on February 3, 2023. The Thunderbirds struggled with foul trouble, significantly impacting their performance and leading to a disappointing exit from the tournament.

After a competitive first quarter where Tumwater trailed by just five points, the second quarter proved pivotal. Woodland surged ahead, scoring 25 points while Tumwater managed only 19, resulting in an 11-point deficit by halftime. Despite a valiant effort, Tumwater could not overcome the foul issues that saw five players foul out during the game.

The Thunderbirds pushed back in the third quarter, closing the gap to just two points at one stage. However, Woodland finished strong, ending the game on an impressive 18-9 run, sealing their victory and ending Tumwater’s season.

Maesyn Williams led Tumwater’s scoring with 13 points, while Kamryn Wilson contributed 11 points, five rebounds, and three assists. Cadynce Lee added eight points, five rebounds, and four steals, showcasing the depth of talent on the team. Anden Demaris recorded seven points and 11 rebounds, while the rest of the team, including Claire Buono, Malia Eggers, and Mya Burke, each contributed to the scoreboard.

“Our girls fought hard, and we’re proud of their grit,” said Tumwater assistant coach Gabi Larson. “We’re ready for the next one.”

Looking ahead, Tumwater, with a season record of 13-10, will face Ridgefield on Monday in an elimination game.
