UPDATE: A cooking-related fire devastated a home in south Aurora on Wednesday night, forcing two adults and two children to evacuate. The incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. at a residence on the 400 block of South Lima Circle.
Firefighters responded promptly to multiple 911 calls reporting flames and smoke. Upon arrival, crews spotted heavy smoke and fire emanating from the upper level of the home, with the occupants safely outside. Firefighters quickly identified the source as a kitchen fire that had spread to the attic.
The fire was brought under control by 6:57 p.m., approximately 17 minutes after the initial call. Fortunately, no injuries were reported during this alarming incident. However, the blaze inflicted significant damage to both the kitchen and the attic, according to Aurora Fire and Rescue spokesperson Eric Hurst.
Despite the extensive damage, the displaced family did not seek assistance from the American Red Cross. The response involved 15 fire and medical units and approximately 40 personnel from Aurora Fire Rescue, Aurora Police, and Falck Rocky Mountain.
Investigators confirmed that the fire was “an accidental kitchen fire related to cooking.” Hurst emphasized the importance of fire safety, noting that cooking remains the leading cause of home fires. He urged residents to never leave cooking unattended, keep flammable items away from heat sources, and ensure that smoke alarms are operational on every level of the home and in sleeping areas.
This alarming incident serves as a critical reminder for all households to prioritize fire safety measures. As authorities continue to investigate, residents are encouraged to stay alert and take necessary precautions.
