Urgent: Major Traffic Disruptions in Boulder County, Nov. 1-7

UPDATE: Major traffic disruptions are set to impact Boulder County from November 1 to November 7 as multiple construction projects commence. Residents and commuters should prepare for significant delays and detours throughout the area.

The most urgent concern is the 28th Street improvements project, which will enhance multimodal travel from Pearl to Iris. Starting immediately, the northbound 28th and Valmont Road RTD Stop No. 17992 will be temporarily relocated just south of the Valmont intersection. This change will remain in effect until December 31, affecting thousands of daily commuters.

In a critical update, crews are beginning work on the 19th Street and Fourmile Canyon Creek Underpass. This project involves replacing the bridge over Fourmile Canyon Creek, and will result in a full closure of northbound 19th Street between Sumac and Upland. Drivers should anticipate detours via Quince, with work expected to conclude by April 1.

Additionally, the 63rd Street waterline replacement is causing significant closures. The section from Jay to Valmont will be closed for through traffic, maintaining access for local businesses and residents. This project is also set to finish by April 1.

On Colo. 7, milling and paving operations are currently underway, with alternating double-lane closures expected until December 15. These closures will occur from 7 a.m. to midnight, Monday through Friday, creating potential delays for those traveling between 28th Street and Cherryvale Road.

Further north in Boulder County, the Sugarloaf Road culvert replacement at Betasso Road will require lane closures and the implementation of a temporary three-way traffic signal. Travelers should expect delays while access to Betasso Preserve remains open. This work is anticipated to last into November.

In the city of Boulder, the ongoing 63rd Street waterline replacement project will continue to impact traffic through February. The closure affects 63rd Street, Andrus Road, and 62nd Street between Jay and Valmont, allowing only local access. Notably, both lanes of traffic on 63rd Street will shift eastward between Gunbarrel Avenue and the railroad crossing.

Additionally, a deteriorating culvert at the Boulder Whiterock Ditch will lead to a full closure of 63rd Street between Jay Road and Twin Lakes Road through mid-November.

In Erie, the Prince Lake Dam rehabilitation project at 111th Street and Flatiron Meadows Boulevard is ongoing and will extend through March 2026. Though no lane closures are anticipated, drivers may face brief delays due to work trucks accessing the site.

Moreover, lane closures will occur on Erie Parkway and Glacier Drive for a traffic signal installation project, which is set to continue through December on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Weld County is also enacting significant traffic changes, with a full closure of WCR 1.5 between Erie and WCR 3, and WCR 3 between WCR 10 and 10.5, lasting until November 26. These closures will be in effect around the clock.

Residents and commuters are urged to plan accordingly and seek alternative routes to avoid delays. Stay tuned for further updates as these projects continue to develop, impacting travel across Boulder County and beyond.
