UPDATE: A hazardous mix of snow, sleet, and ice is set to impact the Philadelphia region starting this Friday. Winter Weather Advisories have been issued for parts of Southeast Pennsylvania, South Jersey, and northern Delaware, as confirmed by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Mount Holly.
The inclement weather is expected to begin between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Friday, with significant accumulations. Philadelphia, along with the northwest suburbs and the Lehigh Valley, may receive between 1-3 inches of snow, while the city itself could see up to 1 inch. Authorities warn that slippery road conditions will pose a serious threat, especially during the evening commute.
In New Jersey, the situation is more severe. Winter Storm Warnings will be in effect for western Monmouth, Middlesex, and Somerset counties, where snow accumulation could reach between 3-5 inches. Residents should prepare for treacherous travel conditions throughout the evening and into Saturday morning.
As temperatures drop, a Code Blue has been declared in Philadelphia through 11 a.m. Saturday. This means the city will implement emergency measures to protect those experiencing homelessness. These measures include 24-hour outreach to transport unhoused individuals to safe indoor spaces and the opening of all available beds within the city’s emergency housing network.
If you see someone in need during this period, please contact the city’s Homeless Outreach hotline at 215-232-1984.
Stay tuned for updates as this weather event unfolds. For those in the region, ensure you take necessary precautions to stay safe during this dangerous weather.
