UPDATE: Utica Notre Dame girls basketball has surged to an impressive 11-0 start, marking their best beginning since the 2017-18 season. The Jugglers showcased their defensive prowess in a commanding 55-15 victory over Oneida on January 7, 2025.
In a game filled with anticipation, Notre Dame’s defense stifled Oneida, keeping them to a mere 15 points. Coach John Snyder praised his team’s performance, stating, “It was a solid performance. We played some good defense tonight and kept Oneida to a low possession game.”
The Jugglers’ current winning streak is a significant turnaround from their early exit in last season’s state tournament. Following their New York State championship run in 2024, the Jugglers are on a quest to replicate that success. “It’s been a good season so far,” Snyder added, emphasizing their focus and energy moving forward.
Leading the charge for Notre Dame, Ella Trinkaus scored 18 points, while Lily Johnson contributed 15 points to the total. The team’s success is attributed not only to standout players like the Trinkaus sisters but also to the development of sophomores like Johnson, Caitlin Williams, and Jules Otis. Snyder noted their exceptional growth, particularly in defending opposing ball handlers.
The Jugglers also gained momentum from their recent holiday tournament in Orlando, Florida, where they swept their competition, providing a major confidence boost. “It’s been exciting for us,” Snyder said. “We played some high-level teams in Florida.”
Looking ahead, Notre Dame faces Rome Free Academy on January 9, 2025, at 5 p.m., followed by the annual Juggler Classic during Martin Luther King, Jr. weekend. “We have a big target on our back, but it’s important for us to stay focused and keep that positive mindset,” Snyder remarked, highlighting the challenges that lie ahead.
Meanwhile, Oneida, now 5-4, is set to host Vernon Verona Sherrill on January 9, 2025, at 6:30 p.m. as they look to rebound from this defeat.
