UPDATE: Weld County Road 34 will close starting Monday, November 6, 2023, through December 22, 2023, as urgent construction begins on a new roundabout at the intersection of Weld 34 and Weld County Road 9.5, now designated as High Plains Boulevard. This closure aims to enhance traffic safety and efficiency in a rapidly developing area.

According to a Weld County news release, the closure will span approximately nine weeks, allowing crews to install essential utilities and drainage systems. Residents will still have access to homes and businesses during this critical phase.

“Just as our other county roundabouts were built to reduce broadside crashes and improve traffic flow, we expect High Plains Boulevard roundabouts to achieve the same results,” stated Curtis Hall, Weld County’s Director of Public Works. The county appreciates public patience as this vital infrastructure upgrade takes place.

The roundabout is part of a broader project that includes bike lanes and a 10-foot sidewalk, promoting safe multi-modal transportation options. Jason Maxey, Weld County Commissioner, emphasized the importance of the new route, saying,

“One of the primary motivating factors for the construction of High Plains Boulevard is to provide another safe and efficient north-south route throughout a busy and growing portion of the county.”

Detour routes have been established and can be found on the Weld County Road Advisory Map at apps.weld.gov/publicworks/roadadvisory.

The project, which will also see another roundabout constructed at the intersection of Weld 32 and Weld 9.5, aims to enhance traffic flow and safety for all users.

Those interested in updates on the project can visit Weld.Gov/Go/HighPlainsBlvd or sign up for the Weld County newsletter at Weld.Gov/Newsroom/Newsletters. This infrastructure enhancement is poised to significantly improve traffic conditions in the area, making it a high-priority development for residents and commuters alike.
