BREAKING: West Ranch girls’ basketball has secured a thrilling victory in their league opener against Golden Valley, winning 26-20 on December 2, 2025. This marks their seventh win of the season and a strong start in the Foothill League.
The game, held at West Ranch High School, was a fierce competition between standout freshman guards Mia Vallas of West Ranch and Brighton Blythe of Golden Valley. Vallas led the Wildcats with 16 points, showcasing her scoring ability with two three-pointers, while Blythe contributed 13 points for the Grizzlies.
Head Coach Paul Gross praised his team’s performance, stating, “We battled the whole game. We played great defense and worked really hard.” The Wildcats’ defense proved critical as they outscored Golden Valley in every quarter.
In addition to Vallas, freshman forward Arianna Corona made a significant impact with 12 points, highlighting the team effort that Coach Gross emphasized. “We got a great group from one to 12 of girls that just play hard all the time,” he noted.
The Grizzlies, now sitting at 4-3, 0-1 in league play, will have a bye this Friday, but are gearing up for their next challenge against Castaic on Tuesday. They also plan to compete in the Northeast Valley tournament this Thursday and Friday.
As for West Ranch, they will hit the road to face the Castaic Coyotes on Friday at 5 p.m., aiming to build on their momentum from this hard-fought victory. The Wildcats are currently at 7-1, 1-0 in league standings.
In other Foothill League action, Saugus dominated Castaic with a score of 73-32, propelled by EvaMarie Rios’ double-double performance of 20 points and 10 assists. Meanwhile, Canyon defeated Hart 56-27, led by Darby Dunn, who scored 27 points.
