UPDATE: A new Kung Fu Tea location is set to open in Redwood City, with a soft launch scheduled for October 27, 2023. Local father Drew Shih, frustrated by daily drives to find boba for his four daughters, has taken matters into his own hands by bringing this popular tea franchise closer to home.

This urgent development comes as families in the area seek convenient access to authentic Taiwanese boba. Shih, who has lived in both Korea and Taiwan, recognized a gap in the market and decided to act. “It became sort of an obsession,” he stated, as he and his family researched boba franchises that could cater to their needs and those of the community.

Kung Fu Tea is renowned for its extensive menu featuring over 70 drinks, including slushies, fruity beverages, and various milk teas such as honey oolong and winter melon. Shih’s daughters have personally taste-tested the offerings, ensuring the menu meets diverse preferences. The eldest siblings are also expected to join the team, enhancing the family-friendly atmosphere of the new location.

The Redwood City branch will be located at 593 D Woodside Road, just a short drive from the only other nearby Kung Fu Tea in San Jose. This expansion is particularly exciting given that the Palo Alto location recently closed, highlighting the demand for boba in the region.
