Jewish Nevada, the representative organization for over 70,000 Jews in the state, held its Annual Meeting on January 14, 2025, where it introduced new board chair Lisa Bassewitz and welcomed several new board members. The event featured keynote speaker Dr. Steven Windmueller, who emphasized the importance of community support amid rising antisemitism.
During the meeting, Jewish Nevada reported a successful annual campaign, raising $4,653,294 from more than 2,400 donors. These funds have been pivotal in promoting and sustaining Jewish life across Nevada through various programs, supporting local organizations, and providing emergency assistance to partners in Israel.
“Our annual meeting is a time for us not only to say ‘thank you’ to our community, staff, and board members but also to look back on the events that occurred over the past year,” stated Jewish Nevada President and CEO Stefanie Tuzman. She added, “With the rise in antisemitism locally and internationally, it is more important than ever for our Jewish communities to feel supported, safe and secure. Our community’s strength and resilience have shone the brightest in these dark moments of hardship.”
Community Support and Funding Initiatives
Jewish Nevada outlined its extensive community impact for the past year, which included providing grants to local agencies of up to $20,000. These grants facilitated regular food deliveries to underserved communities, distributed diapers to over 300 families, organized social events for adults with autism, and supported affordable housing initiatives for veterans.
In total, the organization allocated more than $1.7 million to Jewish preschools, day schools, summer camps, synagogues, and social services agencies. Additional programs focus on caring for the sick and elderly, educating youth, and combating antisemitism.
The meeting served not only as a platform to celebrate achievements but also as a reminder of the ongoing challenges faced by the Jewish community. The leadership emphasized that the organization will continue its mission to bolster Jewish life, combat hate, and protect its members.
